Winchester Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in England, with the longest nave and overall length of any Gothic cathedral in Europe. It also the last resting place of author Jane Austen, who died in the city and is buried in the cathedral's north aisle of the nave.
Jane Austen is one of the most popular and important novelists that England has ever produced. The 17th century house at Chawton is where she spent the last eight years of her life and is the place where she did the majority of her mature writing.
The City museum tells the story of Winchester from its origins as a prehistoric trading centre, through it’s time as a principal city in the Anglo- Norman kingdom right up to modern day Winchester as we see it today.
