Art & Culture in Winchester

Culture lovers will find plenty to occupy them on their visit to Winchester.

This city is saturated with art galleries, live performance venues and historic buildings, appeasing all the culture vultures out there. Winchester is most well known for its eleventh-century Cathedral and for the Great Hall which for over 700 years has housed the mysterious Round Table. Winchester College is the oldest continuously running school in the country, whilst the Hospital of St Cross - a medieval almshouse - still offers the Wayfarer's Dole to travellers as it has done for more than eight centuries.

Theatre Royal Winchester 

Located in the City Centre the Theatre Royal is a short drive from the hotel and a stroll from the shops and restaurants. The Theatre, On Jury Street, provides an artistic programme of drama, dance, music, comedy, children's theatre and physical theatre which is perfect for all ages.

Mayflower Theatre Southampton

Located in the Centre of Southampton the Mayflower Theatre is a 25 minute drive from the hotel. 

The Mayflower Theatre is the largest theatre in the South of England with a capacity of 2,300, it is a major venue for large-scale touring musicals, such as Miss Saigon, Saturday Night Fever and West Side Story. The theatre is also a host for opera, ballet and features West End tours when they tour the UK. The Mayflower is great for families with shows such as James and the Giant Peach, Scooby-Doo and the Mystery of the Pyramid, and the Christmas Pantomime Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates. The theatre is ideally located and is within a 5 minute walk from the Southampton Central train station and is a short stroll from the shops and restaurants of Southampton.

Winchester Gallery

The Winchester Gallery is part of the University of Southampton Winchester School of Art. The gallery showcases the work of the School and often exhibits work from outside the School of Art. Admission to the gallery is free and is open during Winchester School of Art Open afternoons, during interviews for prospective students and by appointment.
